Short path distillation is a distillation technique that involves the distillate traveling a short distance, usually a few centimeters, usually under reduced pressure.
Used for compounds that are unstable at high temperatures or to purify small amounts of compounds. In short path distillation, the boiling temperature can be reduced by reducing the operating pressure.
This has the advantage that the heating temperature can be much lower than the boiling point of the liquid at standard pressure (under reduced pressure), and the distillate only needs to travel a short distance before condensation. The short path ensures that a small amount of compound is lost on the side of the device.
